A Kentucky Boy's Recipe for Sausage Gravy

Ready for a down-home southern breakfast? This recipe is perfect for pouring over biscuits (might I suggest Grand's biscuits?) for some Biscuits n' Gravy. Future directions? Possibly adding mushrooms into the mix as well.
Ingredients
  • 1 package (4 links) of Aidell's sausage (recommended flavors: chicken & apple or portabello mushroom), chopped
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 4 Tbsp flour
  • 4 cups milk
  • 2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • salt and pepper to taste
Directions
  1. Heat oil in a large skillet.
  2. Over medium high heat, saute the sausage until browned and cooked thoroughly.
  3. Stir in butter until well blended.
  4. Stir in flour until mixture is thick and pasty.
  5. Reduce heat to medium low, and slowly add the milk, stirring constantly, until mixture is thick and bubbly. Continue stirring until desired consistency.
  6. Add salt and pepper to taste.
