A Kentucky Boy's Recipe for Sausage Gravy
Ready for a down-home southern breakfast? This recipe is perfect for pouring over biscuits (might I suggest Grand's biscuits?) for some Biscuits n' Gravy. Future directions? Possibly adding mushrooms into the mix as well.
Ingredients
- 1 package (4 links) of Aidell's sausage (recommended flavors: chicken & apple or portabello mushroom), chopped
- 2 Tbsp butter
- 4 Tbsp flour
- 4 cups milk
- 2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- salt and pepper to taste
Directions
- Heat oil in a large skillet.
- Over medium high heat, saute the sausage until browned and cooked thoroughly.
- Stir in butter until well blended.
- Stir in flour until mixture is thick and pasty.
- Reduce heat to medium low, and slowly add the milk, stirring constantly, until mixture is thick and bubbly. Continue stirring until desired consistency.
- Add salt and pepper to taste.
