Jack Chilli
This is a very basic chilli recipe with one minor change: a bit of Jack Daniels. As with my other recipes, feel free to play around with this recipe and make it your own.
Ingredients:
- 1 large onion finely chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 green bell peper, finely chopped
- 1 jalapeno pepper
- 2 Tbsp tomato paste
- 2 Tbsp butter, cut into pieces
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp dried oregano, crushed
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 2 tsp crushed red pepper
- 1/2 cup chilli powder
- 1 (14.5 oz) can whole peeled tomatoes with liquid, chopped
- 1 lb. lean ground turkey
- 1 (15.25 oz) can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 2 Tbsp Jack Daniels whiskey
- salt to taste
- ground black pepper to taste
Directions:
- Brown the ground turkey w/ 1/2 large onion, 2 cloves garlic, and 1 tbsp chilli powder. Set aside.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, combine remainder of onion, garlc, and tomato paste. Cover and cook for 5 minutes.
- Stir in butter until melted. Stir in flour, oregano, cumin, red pepper, chilli powder, tomatoes, beef, and Jack Daniels. Cook uncovered for 8 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Stir in the beans and cook for another 4 minutes, stirring occasionally. Salt, pepper, and other spices to taste.
- Simmer covered at low heat until serving time.
