Pros: Fresh and healthy, rotating "special" cuisines

Cons: lack of depth of any one cuisine, baked potatoes leave something to be desired, not enough fresh fruit

Sweet Tomatoes has easily become one of our all-time favorite restaurants. With various locations across the country, it will likely be a mainstay on our list wherever we live.

Sweet Tomatoes is basically an all-you-can eat healthy buffet. They, of course, emphasize their salad bar, and it's easy to stuff yourself on salad alone. Aside from the salad bar, there is also a soup bar, pasta bar, baked potato bar, bakery bar, dessert bar, iron bar...wait, I got a little carried away. About every 2 weeks or so, Sweet Tomatoes also rotates a different "special" cuisine to focus on. This means that the different stations, along with their standard offerings, will offer a special item that is representative of that "special" cuisine. For example, when there was a Greek emphasis, we had some special Greek focacia, a special couz couz salad, and a few other Greek dishes.

Unfortunately, when a given place offers such a breadth of items, they often do not concentrate on the depth of quality. The baked potatoes (both regular potatoes and sweet potatoes) leave something to be desired, and the pizza often tastes bland, and the chilli is never hot and spicy enough. Don't let this deter you from trying other offerings though.

With the dessert bar, you can revert back to a little kid and get all the soft serve ice cream you want and top it with all the sprinkles, nuts, crushed Oreos, chocolate chips, fudge, caramel...oh wait, I started to drool there. We particularly love putting all this soft serve goodness over their lava cake...sinfully delicious. Unfortunately, as much as they promote healthy food, their selection of fresh fruit is severely lacking.

Oh well, excuse me while I help myself to my 5th helping...
