Pros: fabulous authentic food, live music on Thursday nights
Cons: traditional Ethiopian seating area means awkward body positioning over food, service slightly slow
Nestled close to Emory University campus is Queen of Sheba, a very cozy and comfortable Ethiopian restaurant. The restaurant, itself, is divided into two areas, one with more traditional Ethiopian seating (i.e., a low circular basket table between chairs) and one with more mainstream American seating. On our visit, we chose the Ethiopian seating. This seating might feel a bit uncomfortable, as it would mean hunching over your food.
If you are unfamiliar with Ethiopian cuisine, be prepared to eat with your fingers. The service staff were nice enough to supply us with some moist towelettes before and after eating. Unfortunately, the service staff was relatively slow to address our other requests. Service issues aside, the food was phenomenal. The entree dishes (we had the Vege and Meat combination dishes) offer a huge array of spices and flavors. The entrees are also served in fairly large portions which means leftovers will hold you over for quite a while.
Unfortunately, Ethiopian is not a cuisine everybody tends to immediately gravitate to, but if you are feeling adventurous, this is definitely something to try out.
