Pros: Incredibly polite and friendly staff, excellent grilled meats (particularly with garlic), relatively low prices

Cons: Paltry selection of vegetables

Visiting Oba! was our virgin venture into Brazilian food, but it will surely not be our last. However consequently, we don't have any real basis for comparison. What we can say is that the meat selection was definitely tasty to our new taste buds.

Oba! is set up like a Brazilian steakhouse and buffet bar. Upon seating, the wait staff was incredibly helpful in trying to properly introduce us to Brazilian cuisine. Our waitress guided us through the salad bar then introduced us to the restaurant's piece de resistance: the grilled (actually, it looks as though the heating is through a rotisserie mechanism) meats. The butcher (for lack of a better term) eagerly plopped down two pieces of each meat that they served on our plate. Our favorites were the Lombinho (pork tenderloin) and Picanha c/ Alho (top sirloin with garlic). Their meat selection will definitely have you returning again and again to the grill.

Unfortunately, if you are a vegetarian, there's not much that will grab your attention. Although the restaurant boasts a salad/buffet bar, the only buffet item that satiated us was the fried plantains (very tasty). The rest of the buffet/salad items resemble vegetables that came from a can or fried items that you find in your grocer's freezer.

For the price you pay, you don't have much to complain about. Compared to most other Brazilian restaurants, Oba! definitely offers a cheaper alternative. The family-owned atmosphere also contributes to a sense of coziness and comfort. Oba! is definitely a good introduction to Brazilian food and would most effectively serve as a gateway to (more exensive) Brazilian cuisine.
