Pros: Amazing cajun/creole for amazing prices, fresh ingredients, environmentally conscious
Cons: Somewhat awkward parking
Towards the southwest corner of the commerce district of Decatur lies an excellent Cajun/Creole restaurant and bar. We cannot rave enough about this restaurant. The staff was incredibly friendly and accomodating when we popped in for lunch. They couldn't have tended to us quick enough, as we started salivating as we saw others being served. We ordered a Fried Alligator Po Boy Sandwich and a Crawfish Lemoine pasta dish. As I ordered the fried alligator, the waitress warned me that the alligator would be spicy. Of course, my response was to bring on the spice. In the end, however, I thought the alligator was lacking in spice, but still incredibly tasty. All in all, this is the only comment remotely resembling a complaint that I can make about the food. The rest of the food was incredible, and the ingredients were obviously fresh.
The parking takes a little getting used to. Your options are either street parking or some awkwardly placed parking lots about half block from the restaurant. Other than these placements, we really can't complain about Depeaux. The food is fresh and affordable, and as an added bonus, supporting Depeaux also means supporting environmentally friendly practices. The restaurant prides itself on using wind-generated electricity.
