Pros: excellent seafood, genuine char-shu and roasted duck

Cons: misleading Hot Pot menu, sometimes spotty service

Typically, if you see roasted duck and/or pork hanging in the window, you know that you're up for good Chinese food. That's exactly what you'll find at BBQ Corner 2 (we have yet to visit the first one) situated in Asian Square along Buford Highway. These two signs also mean 2 things: excellent roasted/bbq pork and roasted duck. Our first visit to BBQ Corner 2 was primarily to get some char-shu (barbecued pork, often found in many different Chinese dishes) for our own cooking.

We visited the restaurant a second time with a good friend of ours, and we were served an excellent assortment of crab, seafood, vegetables, and clay pot dishes. One note about the clay pot dishes...they are labeled on the menu as "Hot Pot," which some people may know has a different connotation to those who enjoy Chinese cuisine. Misleading labels aside, the clay pot dish with assorted meat and seafood was splendid, and its sauce was very tantalizing, adding excellent flavor to the food.

Our friend seemed to enjoy the mai-fun (thin rice noodle) dish which was filled with vegetables and char-shu. If you have the chance, I strongly recommend ordering the dungeness crab. As someone who grew up on the West Coast, I have a particular fondness for dungeness crab with black bean sauce. This dish did not disappoint. However, if you are unaquainted with putting some effort and making a bit of a mess towards getting your food, you may want to shy away; eating the dish involves cracking into the crab shells yourself to get to the very tasty meat.

At times, the service was a little spotty, and there was a little bit of a receipt confusion, though quickly resolved. Nevertheless, this should not deter you from what is otherwise an excellent Chinese restaurant. One of these days, we'll have to try ot the original.
